Calculate average daily gain (ADG) from start weight, end weight, and days — plus total gain and a simple projection after more days at the same ADG.
Use this for growing cattle, stockers, or any livestock where you have two weights and the days between them. Optional projection assumes the same ADG continues.
ADG is total gain divided by days. Projected weight adds ADG × extra days to the end weight.
ADG = (end − start) ÷ days
total_gain = end − start
projected = end + ADG × more_days
Start 500 lb, end 750 lb, 100 days:
Gain = 250 lb → ADG = 2.50 lb/day. After 30 more days at that ADG → 825 lb projected.
Assumptions: linear gain between weigh days; projection holds ADG constant.
Limits: shrink, gut fill, and implants/rations changes break linearity. Not a feedlot closeout model.
Responsibility: use consistent weigh conditions when comparing groups.
Yes if end < start — the calculator will show weight loss per day.
Compare like with like. Many producers use pencil-shrunk or early-morning empty weights consistently.
Enter kg for start/end and read ADG in kg/day — the formula is unit-consistent.
