Calculate flock feed conversion ratio — pounds of feed per pound of gain — and optionally $ per lb of gain from your feed bill.
Use this at flock closeout or mid-cycle checkpoints when you know (or can estimate) total feed delivered and liveweight produced.
Lower FCR is better. Commercial targets vary by genetics and days to market; use your integrator’s guide for benchmarks.
FCR is feed divided by gain. Cost per lb gain is feed dollars divided by gain pounds.
FCR = feed_lb ÷ gain_lb
$/lb_gain = feed_$ ÷ gain_lb
lb/bird = gain_lb ÷ birds (optional)
For mortality-adjusted gain, add estimated weight of dead/condemned birds to marketed liveweight before computing, per your integrator’s rule.
10,000 lb feed, 6,200 lb gain, feed cost $2,500:
FCR = 10,000 ÷ 6,200 ≈ 1.61 · cost of gain ≈ $0.40/lb.
Assumptions: feed and gain on the same flock and period; gain is liveweight increase (not including eggs).
Limits: does not compute European Production Index or adjust for age. Shrink and condemn policies differ by plant.
Responsibility: follow label withdrawal and animal-care standards — this page only does feed math.
Commercial FCR almost always uses as-fed feed tonnage as delivered.
Yes — total feed usually includes feed eaten by birds that later died. Gain definitions vary; ask your integrator how they want dead-bird weight handled.
This FCR form is for meat gain. Layers need feed per dozen eggs — a different calculator.
