Add a breed-typical goat gestation (default 150 days, ~145 for miniatures) to a breeding or buck-exposure date — or work backward from a target kidding.
Use this when you recorded a breeding, AI, or buck-turnout date and need a kidding due date plus a watch window for kidding pens and supplies.
Standard dairy/meat goats average about 150 days; Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy lines often run closer to 145–148. Multiples can arrive a few days early.
Forward mode adds gestation days to the breeding date. Reverse mode subtracts from the target kidding date.
kidding = breeding_date + gestation_days
breeding = kidding_date − gestation_days
window = result ± window_days
Normal kidding often falls in a 145–155 day band around the average for the breed.
Bred 1 Apr 2026 at 150 days → due about 29 Aug 2026. With ±5 days, watch roughly 24 Aug – 3 Sep 2026.
Assumptions: single known breeding date; gestation is a breed average.
Limits: pasture breeding with a long buck exposure produces a wide conception window — use buck-in/out mentally as earliest/latest.
Responsibility: not veterinary confirmation; prepare for early multiples and call a vet for overdue does.
Many standard breeds plan on ~150 days; miniatures often ~145. Override with your herd records.
Earliest kidding ≈ buck-in + min gestation; latest ≈ buck-out + max gestation. Start watches at the early edge.
Many herds boost CDT ~3–4 weeks before due — set a calendar reminder from the early window, not only the center date.
